11 Benefits of Gymnastics for Kids

Gymnastics is the perfect springboard for children to go on to live healthy and active lives. But, many of the benefits run much deeper than that. Check out our top 11.

1. Get Activated: The World Health Organisation recommends children aged five to 17 should get “at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous-intensity physical activity daily”. The Activated Group School Gymnastics program is all about getting kids 100 percent active, 100 percent of the time.

2. Fun: Children are given the opportunity to flip, roll, cartwheel, jump, run, bounce, swing and spin. It’s so much fun, children forget they’re exercising.

3. Discipline: While gymnastics is fun, it takes discipline to master some of the more challenging manoeuvres safely. The Activated Group School Gymnastics program breaks down each movement, encouraging children to listen, focus and practice.

4. Strength: Learning gymnastics is a gradual progression of repetitive movements, helping kids develop their core strength.

5. Balance and coordination: Gymnastics helps children to develop their gross motor skills, which will only serve them well in future sporting or physical pursuits.

6. Patience: Children learn they are running their own race when it comes to gymnastics. They come to realise, the skills they want to develop will come with time and practice. This is a great life lesson.

7. Resilience: Children are given the space to experience controlled risk. Maybe their first cartwheel attempt resembles more of a sideward rollie pollie but Activated Group coaches are right there spotting and with to encourage students to get back on their feet and try again.

8. Confidence: Gymnastics is for everyone. As with anything, children grow in confidence the more their skills develop.

9. Peer Support: Children develop at their own pace. Activated Group’s School Gymnastics program offers a platform for students to grow their skills alongside their peers with no competitive pressure.

10. Ambition: Children learn a great life lesson by setting smaller goals that can achieve exciting results.

11. Health and happiness: Children who are given the freedom to move, are challenged by a task, encouraged by their peers, and have a coach in their corner are going to be healthier and happier.
